Bivouac
The Bruche valley is an everyday invitation to explore the magnificent landscapes of the Vosges Massif, to walk, to get some fresh air... to simply go green. At dusk... here you will find spaces where you can spend the night under the stars in complete simplicity and in harmony with nature, bivouac is an experience tolerated with strict respect for nature.
Take only memories, leave no trace.
The bivouac is the experience of being “hosted by nature” in the literal sense. As a caring host, only take memories and leave no trace! It is on this condition that this practice can be tolerated in the long term.
Reminder of the rules:
The bivouac is a camp for itinerant hiker(s). It is only practiced from nightfall to daybreak.
It is an ephemeral shelter for a maximum of one night before continuing on your way.
Bivouac is practiced at the hiker's own risk. It is only tolerated wherever it is not specifically prohibited.
In our region the practice of bivouac is prohibited:
- in forests, woods and parks classified as areas “to be conserved” or “to be protected” such as nature reserves (example: Natura 2000 zone),
- in municipalities having issued a municipal decree prohibiting the practice on its municipal ban,
- on public roads and paths,
- less than 200 m from a water catchment suitable for consumption,
- less than 500 m from a historic, classified or heritage monument,
- on all sites classified in nature heritage protection zones,
- private roads and land (where the owner must explicitly give permission).
Reminder: fires are strictly prohibited in and within 200 m of a forest.
Below you will find a map of the bivouac areas tolerated in the Bruche valley, as well as the identification of protected areas, water points, refreshment points, picnic areas and shelters.
PLEASE NOTE: Information made available subject to change. The availability of water points or access to certain forest areas during periods of drought may in particular be modified. Before leaving, check with the town hall of the municipality concerned, consult the prefectural decrees in force ou forest weather.
